Music Update

I’ve talked about WHY? before, or at least just one of their tracks, but now I get to talk about one of their CDs! :D WHY? “is a trio of Cincinnati-born men who fiddle with skins, strings, bells and microphones and present their findings to the listening public,” based upon their Last.fm profile.

Their music reminds of They Might Be Giants, if TMBG were to suck in a tiny bit of sulfur hexafloride and go crazy with waves of emotions. It’s some pretty awesome stuff. WHY? also has this S. Rich vibe, with the speed that Yoni Wolf sings.

Simeon’s Dilemma – WHY?

Also, here’s a video for the song “Your Ex-Lover is Dead.” The track is just amazing. Star makes me feel loved. ;]

I haven’t listened to anything new lately. I’ve just been chilling with Andrew Bird’s Noble Beast and a ton of random Grizzly Bear. Their stuff will never get old. I got a CD by The Antlers, but it hasn’t quite grown on me like I thought it would.

I also have a couple Animal Collective CDs, but they are just out of my freaky cool range. They are a little too expiremtial for me at times. I do like one of their songs, although I can never remember the name of the track.

I let my AP Chemistry teacher borrow my They Might be Giants CD and he loves it. I can’t say the same for the rest of the classes that he has. I’ve managed to get Roy G. Biv stuck in about 65% of the high school students heads. XD

Moving to WordPress

Ok, I was putting all of the old posts up on the WordPress, but it’s taking waay too long. I’m just going to put up a link somewhere. I’ve said it over and over again that I needed to move over to WordPress. There. Feel happy Oliver! xD

Now, you can’t have a post without some music! That would be treachery!

I picked up Andrew Bird’s Noble Beast and Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. <3

As we all know, anything that Andrew Bird puts out is AWESOME, and Noble Beast is nothing short of awesome. :D The track Anonanimal is featured on Noble Beast. I totally reccomend that you check out his live versions of this song! I like his performance Live at Cemetary Gates that was featured on Pitchfork.tv for a while.

Last.fm had recommended Animal Collective to me, as well as some of the other performers that are/were apart of Animal Collective, so I decided to get one of their more known CDs. It’s definitely a sound that I have to get used to, but I like it a lot. It’s like a psychedelic  version of the Beach Boys, strangely enough.

Covers

First things first, go check out http://ieattapes.com right after you listen to these. I emailed them in the past about what exactly ieattapes was for and I got a reply saying that it was like a fresh, warm baked potato with all the toppings. ;D

Now, the title says it all. Ieattapes posted some new blues songs as well as a good gem of a song. It’s a cover by Lady & Bird, and if you’ve ever seen an episode of M*A*S*H in your life, you’ll probably like it.

Lady & Bird – Suicide is Painless (Free Download)

Next up is a Radiohead cover, which I totally and absolutely love love love. <3 My Brightest Diamond is one of my favorite artists. If you like it, then you’ll probably like A Tribute to OK Computer.

My Brightest Diamond – Lucky

This is an extremely pretty version of What a Wonderful World. It does justice to the original version.

The Innocence Mission – What a Wonderful World

Ahhh. One of my favorite covers, well it may be the original… I love it either way. Iron and Wine is just amazing. No matter what he plays always memorizes me.

Iron and Wine – Such Great Heights

It’s also a shame that Last.fm only has thirty seconds of the song available. :/

No x’s, just o’s.

Grizzly Bear – Horn of Plenty

For those of you who have never heard of Grizzly Bear, I’d say that they sound like a mixture of natural beats and strange stringed things, as well as random piano keys. You could say that they sound like elevator music for a really really strange place. ^ ^

Back in 2005, Grizzly Bear put out Horn of Plenty – a CD composed of remixes. I’ve fallen in love with CD. Their song Deep Sea Diver (covered by The Bomarr Monk) is my favorite track off of Horn of Plenty. The beat is wickedly amazing. Plus, the guitar about half way into the track sound like RoosterTeeth’s opening to Red vs. Blue.

Also, here’s an awesome video of Grizzly Bear playing Shift (here’s the song in .mp3 via their site) in a cramped bathroom. No matter where they perform, they are always amazing. Beautiful music for the not so beautiful people. Ha. ^ ^

(Err… The Youtube video is gone now…)

School’s Starting/Music Update

•August 15, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Due to school starting, my posts are going to become even more sparse than they are as of now. I’m going to try to post on Mondays and Fridays still. I haven’t listened to very much new stuff. I’ve just been going through all of my music and listening to some of my favorites over and over again. Here’s some new songs though.
